Simple Video Template for Fighters

Consistency is key to growing as an MMA fighter. Dependability and predictiability, in terms of your performance, your training, your ability to make weight, is what’s gotten you this far in your Martial Arts career.

To go further, you’re going to need to hold yourself to these standards not only in terms of your actual combat performance, but also in terms of how you market and display yourself, and a massive portion of how you market and display yourself has to be in video.

Consistent, dependable, predictable video content is what drives growth in the digital martial arts space. You need to be putting out videos weekly, at a minumum, and on your shorter form spaces, such as reels, you really don’t want to go more than a day without posting something. So here’s a very simple, repeatable, dependable video idea that you can do over and over again to accomplish just that.

THE SPARRING REEL

This is a very simple video format which you can repeat nearly ad-infinitum. You’ve already seen it like 200 times, and you were interested all 200 of them. It works.

To make it, you need:

  • a phone w/ camera
  • a victim
  • a gf/bf/gymbro/cameraperson

You hand your cameraperson your phone, and they film you while you spar the victim (“sparring partner”). Have the cameraperson hold the phone vertical if you’re shooting for Instagram or Tiktok, horizontal for Facebook and YouTube.

After you’ve filmed the round, you take your phone, start recording audio (screen record function usually has that feature, or many apps are available that can do it) and record yourself narrating your sparring. Talk about whatever the hell you want to talk about, maybe your lunch that day, maybe the sick switch-teep you just landed and how you spent 20 years perfecting it in a cave, whatever. Slap the audio onto the sparring reel, and boom, video. Do this once per class, you’ve got all the content you need.

We sell a slightly better version of this video format to Vision fighters, and there absolutely are many things you can do to optimize this video format and make it more attention-grabbing, but that really is the gist, right there. Do it enough times and you’ll get better at it, you’ll figure it out yourself, and you won’t have to pay us anything. You’re welcome.
