C-Type Darkroom Printing
Need: $500
Division: Photography
Status: OPEN
The fastest, easiest, and in many cases cheapest way to make color prints… once you’ve got the tanks and chemicals.
For this initial stage, we’d make use of a local community darkroom to test out the printing method, then likely require more support to bring production fully in-house. This would substantially lower the cost of future color prints, color proof prints, and certain stylized fine art prints, and allow us to offer more unique services to color-photo clients.
Analog C-Type printing is a culturally abandoned photographic printing method. The C-Type photopapers available today are all intended specifically for use with digital C-Type machines and are no longer designed with darkroom enlargement in mind, meaning truly “accurate” color darkroom photopapers no longer exist. Nonetheless, the look that digital photopapers give when processed via analog methods is unique, and still sought after in some circles.
